In the boating world there are no subjects that generate more discussion than anchors! Which one is best? How much chain vs rode?
Like many Chinese builders, the Airtex anchor is the default one provided by the factory. I was always impressed by the Ultra anchors that are standard on Flemings and those owners told me they performed exceptionally well. I spec'd this anchor on our boat and am glad to have all 80 kg of it on board Mahalo. She's a beauty. Also, foreman Lu came up with a super slick anchor "stay" that is much preferable to the traditional "claw" arrangement for fastening the anchor to the boat without putting strain on the windlassl

Master shower is looking good. Before we signed our contract I spoke with several other owners. One of the feedback items I got was that the area around the glass door was wood and took water damage quickly.
In our contract addendum of changes, we specified stainless trim for this area. HYG actually still had time to make this improvement on the prior hull and did so. Every boat gets a little better. For today's post, a series of random shots of HYG techs working on the boat. This one shows the scale of the flybridge hardtop. Larry Clark of HYG's Ft. Lauderdale office demonstrating the height of the door coming from the salon into the lazarette. This setup is a first for a Hampton. Looking at the back wall of the lazarette. You can see the sink, and the space for the trash compactor. That door behind his head leads out to the swim platform. There will be steps there eventually. Port side of the master stateroom. Starboard side of the master stateroom. And my favorite! Outside the master stateroom.
We do a fair amount of stove top fry cooking. And that means cooking odors, steam, etc. At home we have a pro range and hood. Previous Hampton's have come with a microwave over the stove top, that has integral fans. I'll give them credit as these fans to vent outside the boat, not just through a filter and back into the galley.
But I wanted a real range hood if possible. You know, be able to cook some bacon and not smell it for 24 hours, right? HYG was up for the challenge. We located a Broan vented setup meant to be built into cabinetry. It's got a variable speed control (which is what I like). Here one of the factory techs is working on my hood! Very exciting! Of course this meant locating the microwave somewhere else, so we went with one of Sharp's drawer micro's meant to be mounted under the counter top. My brother has one at his house and it's pretty sweet. It's not shown in this picture, but it is directly across from the guy's knee. One of the HYG Factory techs giving our upper helm wheel some TLC. The flybridge area on an Endurance is pretty huge. Great place to drive the boat from if the weather is favorable, but even better just for hanging out. A large part of it is covered. And there is a ton of storage. See those two open hatches? All of that area can be used for storage. This is looking backward from nearly the same vantage point. Where that hat is - that is the settee area, with seating for six or more people. Table not shown. Storage all underneath. Back where the barrels are is where the tender will be stowed. You can access the flybridge both from inside the boat, as well as via stairs from the cockpit. Here you can see how large the settee is. And apparently it is pretty deep as well! Now the photographer moved aft and is shooting forward. This is sort of the back of the settee area. At left will be a refrigerator. At right a gas BBQ. In the middle is a custom cabinet to hold the propane tank. Oh and a small sink!
Life's going to be good up here? What should I do for my first BBQ? |
